History of Don Valley Lodge

Don Valley Lodge is the fourth daughter of St George's Lodge and was formed 3 years after acquiring the Masonic Hall in Priory Place. A group of brethren, under the leadership of IPM W. Bro GW Mitchell, began to discuss the advisability of forming a second Lodge in the town. Apparently their discussions proceeded in a leisurely manner and they had not reached the point of preparing a petition when to their surprise at the December meeting of St. George's Lodge another group headed by Bro.Hodkin, JW of Hardwick Lodge No 2373 of Chesterfield presented a Petition for signature. The Petition was not accepted, on the grounds that any new Lodge in Doncaster "ought to be a child of St. George's Lodge".
After discussions, the second group willingly joined W.Bro Mitchell's group and after further discussion another Petition was prepared and signed in July 1918.  The warrant for the Don Valley Lodge bears the date 14th October 1918 and the number 3890. It was consecrated on 15th January 1919.
The first Master of the newly formed Don Valley Lodge No.3890 was W.Bro. G.W.Mitchell,P.P.G.W.
